Hello and Welcome to Extane Pomeranians.

As you can plainly see I love pomeranians, not only are Pomeranian's my passion, but they are also my obsession. When I was 4 years old I went to a dog show with my grandmother. I was in total awe of the event and a seed was planted at that very early age even though it would be many years before I would become an actual part of the dog show world.

In January of 1986 I finally bought my first show Pom. I did not know at that time what to look for when purchasing a show pom. I simply found a breeder and bought a dog. My learning began immediately. The bitch I purchased turned out to have the worst patella's I have ever seen to this day. Needless to say, this first show Pom turned out to be an expensive pet. Being new and not knowing what else to do, I went back to the same breeder and bought another dog. This second show Pom had worms so bad that it had an internal infection due to the worms. I took him to the vet and he was put on medication.

Because I had already entered a show in Washington, I took the new puppy and the bitch to the show. I stayed on the show grounds in a tent. That doesn't sound so bad does it? Except it rained the entire time we were there, the tent leaked creating a river to run right through it. Luckily we had an air mattress and that kept our belongings dry.

The one good thing that happened at the show was that I met some very nice and helpful people there. These people were parked right next to me and took pity on my bad situation. It turned out that they introduced me to some other nice people, and they steered me to an honest breeder. This changed the course I seemed to be on. From this introduction I bought my foundation bitch, Ch Watts' Little Country Bumpkin. After I got Bumpy, good things began to happen to me in the Pom world. Bumpy was my first champion and her breeder became a very dear friend.

Newcomers to the dog show world are at the mercy of the breeders. Having said and lived that, I know how important it is to find a reputable breeder. The new enthusiast needs guidance from the breeder and someone to be there when they have questions. I was not afforded that luxury in my beginnings with Poms and I realize how different things could have been had I found an honest, conscientious breeder from the start.
